Tissue, silk scarf, tea bags, crepe paper…

Using tissue (e.g., a layer of a paper napkin), etc., you can create wonderful backgrounds by “gluing” a piece of it onto the surface after applying a general coat of color with clear wax. This creates delicate, flowing areas of color, onto which the rest of the image can be created by painting directly. Interesting effects can be created by crumpling the overlay, loosely stretched back on, and ironing it onto the surface.
